About Me

I’m Gem – communications manager by day, aspiring travel blogger by night.

With my 40th birthday on the horizon, I decided I’d spent too much of my life sitting behind a desk and saving for a rainy day – because, let’s face it, it’s always raining in England! I started booking holidays to some of the places I thought I’d only ever see on social media – places like Neuschwanstein Castle, The Dolomites, and the Austrian Alps.

Most of my friends would rather sun themselves on a beach than hike to a remote mountain lake, so that means I’m often travelling solo, but I don’t mind a bit of solitude. On the plus side, it means I can create my own itinerary – and if there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s research and planning!

My mission is simple – to find the best views around and get to them by public transport.

With just 34 days of freedom a year and a limited budget to work with, I’m making the most of the time I have and keeping the costs down as much as possible – which isn’t always easy when you’re paying for everything yourself.

I wanted to document my journey to remind myself that there’s a lot more to life than work and I hope, by sharing my adventures with you, you’ll pick up some helpful tips and discover some new places along the way too.

I’ll be writing honest reviews and posting unedited pictures of all the places I’ve visited, so you can get a sense of what they’re like without the filters.

I hope you enjoy the ride!
